DOAN NHU HAI'S TOMB AND TEMPLE – DIAN CHAU DISTRICT
Temple of Governor General Doan Nhu Hai is located in Dien An commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province.
Doan Nhu Hai was born in the year of Geng Chen (Dragon) (1280) in Hoi Xuyen village, Truong Tan district (now known as Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province), who was the son of Doan Phuc Trung - who used to be a leader under command power of Hung Dao Lord Tran Quoc Tuan, directly participated in decisive battles such as: Van Don 1281, Bach Dang 1288... Year of Ji Hai (Pig) (1299) Doan Nhu Hai was ordained by the king as "Ngự sử Trung tán" (the second-ranked official in Dai Ngu Su, tasked with intervening and dissuadeing the king), at this time, he had just turned 20 years old.
Doan Nhu Hai died while participating in a battle with the invading Ai Lao army in Nam Nhung (now known as Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district). Mourning the loyal and talented hero, the Tran Dynasty consolidated the offensive force, defeated the enemy, conquered the land, and recruited the people of Cung Village - Tuong Duong district (today called Bong Khe commune - Con Cuong district) sacrificed the soul of Doan Nhu Hai and set up a temple to worship him in a riverside village to smell incense all year round.
By the Later Le Dynasty (2nd year of Canh Hung - 1739), the descendant of Governor General Doan Nhu Hai was Doan Viet Yen, at this time he was an chief of Quynh Luu district, he found that his temple was located in a remote land, difficult for worshiping, so he asked the king's permission to move the temple and set up a tomb to collect his soul in the temple grounds at Nguyet Tien village - Dien An commune - Dien Chau district.
Doan Nhu Hai Temple was built on an area of about 2300m2, facing the main West. Around the temple is a lush casuarina garden all year round, creating shade for the monument. At first the scale of the temple was simple. During the Nguyen Dynasty, especially the reign of Tu Duc, the temple was restored and built by the People and their family-clan on a large scale, including the following works: Tam Quan Gate, Garden, Lower hall, Middle hall, Upper hall, Civil Mandarins (Ta Vu), house for mandarin martial arts (Huu Vu) and 1 house for preparing the worship ...
Every year, on the 12th day of the third lunar month, the people and descendants of the Doan family gather at the temple to hold sacrifices and commemorate the famous Doan Nhu Hai. Currently, the temple has been attracting a large number of people and visitors from all over the region to visit and worship, and at the same time is a place to educate patriotic traditions for today and future generations.
