CAO LO TEMPLE - DIEN CHAU DISTRICT
Cao Lo Temple was established to worship Warrior-Captain Cao Lo, the temple is located in Dien Tho commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province.
Cao Lo was originally born in Cao Duc commune, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province today (formerly known as Kinh Bac town). Cao Lo is the inventor of the inter-continental crossbow, also known as the magic crossbow (can shoot many arrows at the same time). He was the one who advised Thuc An Duong Vuong to move the capital to the plain, find land to build the capital and was assigned by King to design and command the construction of Co Loa citadel. He was also the one who dissuaded King Thuc from letting My Nuong marry Trong Thuy, however, King Thuc didn't listen and chased him away. Therefore, Cao Lo went back to Nho Lam village to live in seclusion and found an ore mine, smelting iron to become the Forge ancestor. When Trieu Da's army came to fight, King Thuc was defeated and fled, Cao Lo and his younger-brother Cao Tu came to the rescue. Because the enemy was too strong, the big and important job failed, he returned to Nho Lam village to " forging armored weapon". It is said that he was killed in battle when he came to save King Thuc.
Previously, Cao Lo temple was in Ru Ta (Ma Yen Son), later, Cao's descendants moved the temple to the present location. At present, the Cao family-clan's great ancestral lineage hall in Nghe An still preserves nearly 20 religious orders conferred by the dynasties to famous generals and gods of the Cao family-clan, which proves the good tradition of Warrior-Captain Cao Lo's family-clan.
Cao Lo Temple in Dien Tho Commune is a place of gratitude, memorial and honor to a military celebrity at the dawn of history. A large-scale festival with strong national identity was also held at the temple, attracting a large number of descendants of the Cao families and People to attend. This is a meaningful activity towards the origin, promoting the fine customs and traditions of the locality and family-clan. In addition, the temple is also a red address for traditional education of "building and defending the country" of our nation for generations, especially the young generation today.
