DIEN CO TEMPLE

          Dien Co temple was built during Le Trung Hung's reign in Dien Co hamlet, Dong Chu village, Thuong Xa canton, Chan Loc district (now known as hamlet 14, Nghi Truong commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province). This place has marked the history and spirituality of the coastal people of Nghi Truong commune and it was the "cradle of the patriotic movement and revolutionary movement" of Nghi Loc district during the period from the end of the 19th century to before the August Revolution 1945.

According to traditional custom, every 2 years, local people jubilantly organize Dien Co temple festival on 20th and 21st January of the lunar calendar. In those days, the people of villages in the area made trays to worship at the temple. In the tray, two traditional cakes are indispensable, namely Banh Day and Banh Di. Dien Co temple festival brings cultural and spiritual values ​​in the minds of Nghi Truong residents, attracting the participation of a large number of local people and people in the region. The festival starts from the afternoon of 20th and ends on the evening of 21st January (lunar calendar), including 2 parts: the ceremony and the festival.

The ceremony includes: Reporting/announcement ceremony, sacrifice ceremony, procession and thanksgiving ceremony.

Reporting/announcement ceremony: On the evening of 20th January. The content of this ceremony is to report to the gods about the preparation and ask for it to be carried out the next day with good weather.

Sacrifice ceremony: It takes place on 21st January of the lunar calendar. After 3 acts of gongs and drums, the celebrant will read a sacrificial text. Traditional rituals are conducted very solemnly and respectfully.

Procession ceremony: After the sacrifice is finished, the procession begins in the following order: Lion dance team, Gong drum team; Bat Buu team; Music team; then the palanquin procession of the gods; Sacrifice team; Finally, delegates and classes of people attend the ceremony. The procession goes around the village and then back to the temple.

The festival part with many exciting cultural and sports activities, human chess competition, folk games such as cock fighting competition, tug of war, chucking coins, swinging, tickling, lion dance, organizing Tuong singing (episode of Trung Trac Trung Nhi)....
