NGHI AN FLOWER VILLAGE - VINH CITY

In recent years, Kim My village in Nghi An commune - Vinh city has been considered an ideal destination for bonsai enthusiasts as well as bonsai traders inside and outside the province. In 2010, the village was recognized as a craft village by the city. Kim My people are trying to focus on developing widely the model of growing flowers and ornamental plants, striving to bring the village's products into a brand name.

Kim My's bonsai industry started about ten years ago. At first, from the elegant pleasure of a few people, a few individual families, then, bonsai gradually became a valuable commodity crop, favored by the whole village. Realizing the increasing demand of the market, plus high economic efficiency, many households have boldly changed the structure of their crops from cash crops (mainly wet rice) to flowers and ornamental plants. Up to now, the whole village has about 70-80 households developing in this direction.

Farmers' Union of Vinh city has sent technical staff to the locality to teach people the basic knowledge about caring, growing flowers and ornamental plants. At these lessons, the farmers were guided specifically on the process of caring for plants according to each growth period, how to irrigate and fertilize as well as bending, separating and shaping... and piloting a model of a net house, planting flowers in pots with high-class flowers, small Bonsai trees, have much higher economic value, save replanting area, and partly limit the consequences of the weather.

This model will be replicated in the future, creating great efficiency. In addition, plants such as sesame buds, mango, si... and some species such as ten thousand years old, canary, muong ... are also focused. In the near future, the village is preparing to establish a "Gardening Association", in the immediate future, there are 7-8 families to join together, contribute investment capital, exchange experiences, find outputs... to make flower and ornamental plants more developed.

By understanding the increasing demands of customers and the market, and at the same time, realizing the economics that this type of production brings, Kim My village's people have changed their old farming practices, shifting from purely agricultural production to agricultural production in the direction of goods and markets. Kim My village's people are striving to learn and improve their knowledge in the development of flower and ornamental plant models to bring their village from a village that knows this industry to a craft village in the nearest future.
