TRU PHAP COMMUNAL HOUSE – YEN THANH DISTRICT

Tru Phap communal house is located in My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province. According to historical documents, Tru Phap communal house was built in the 18th century, under King Du Tong, the work lasted 3 years from 1717 to 1720, the wood part and thatched roof were completed. In the year of Water Cat (1903), the villagers of Tru Phap carried out the restoration of the communal house and completed the year of Wood Dragon (1904) with the basic appearance as today.

This is one of the large communal houses of Yen Thanh district with Nguyen Dynasty architecture, it is still almost intact to this day. The frame of house is made of ironwood, the pillars are large, it must be hugged by a few people. On wooden structures such as beam, rafter, king post, post head, stemple... are decorated with beautiful themes of four sacred animals (dragon, unicorn, turtle, phoenix), four kinds of trees (Cedrus, chrysanthemum, bamboo, apricot) are beautiful and have high artistic value. The most prominent is in the second truss set (from the inside out), the artists used the carving art by chiseling solid wood and shaping, combined with embossing to create artistic masterpieces of decoration.

During the Can Vuong movement against the French, the people of Yen Thanh responded to the Can Vuong decree of King Ham Nghi. Tru Phap village communal house at that time became a place to meet and gather forces of the participants in the uprising. Until the 1930-1931 revolutionary movement and before the August 1945 revolution, Tru Phap communal house was the meeting place of revolutionary soldiers. At the same time, this was also the place to gather mass forces under the leadership of the Party to fight against the colonialists and feudalists. Tru Phap communal house was one of the red addresses of the revolutionary struggle movement in Yen Thanh during this historical period.

In addition to historical values, Tru Phap communal house is also a place for cultural activities of the community, a place to worship the village tutelary god - the deity who has openly reclaimed and established a village, bringing a rich life to the people.

At the old village communal house, there were many festivals to pay tribute to the merits of the Village Citadel, and at the same time it was the place to organize a village festival with many unique folk games, contributing to dispelling daily fatigue, connecting Villagers closer together.

Today, the communal house still maintains the New Year's End Ceremony, which is held on January 7 every year. In addition, the full moon and first day of every month also attract a large number of people in the region and surrounding areas to burn incense, offer offerings, and pray for God to bless everyone, and everyone's home to be peaceful and happy..

Thus, Tru Phap communal house is not only a valuable work of architecture and art, but also contains many historical vestiges of Yen Thanh homeland through each period. With those values, Tru Phap communal house was ranked as a national historical relic by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Decision No. 508/QD- BVHTTDL dated February 13, 2015.
