“Festival once every ten years” held at Nguyen Canh Hoan temple in

  Trang Son commune, Do Luong district

"Festival once every ten years" is a historical and cultural festival to pay tribute to the merits of Thai Pho Tan Quoc Cong Nguyen Canh Hoan (1521 - 1576) and highranking madarins who are descendants of the Nguyen Canh family clan at Nguyen Canh Hoan temple in Trang Son commune, Do Luong district, Nghe An province. This festival appeared more than 04 hundred years ago, stemming from the regulations of the ancestors of the Nguyen Canh familythe festival is held once every 10 years from the 13^th to 15^th March of the lunar calendar of the years 12 animals (the leading animal of each stem).

Since it was first organized to now, only 3 periods (1954, 1964, 1974) were interrupted by the war. In 1984, the Nguyen Canh family clan was restored and maintained to today. The festival is organized with the cooperation of the local government and the Nguyen Canh family clan, with careful preparation from 03 months ago, from the stage of setting up his costumes, hats, shoeses, thrones, palanquins for preparing for ordination, banners, elephants (for tribes with dukes), paper horses to the costumes of the processions.

The soul of the "Festival once every ten years" is a monumental procession with a length of more than one kilometer arranged in the traditional formation: Martial orders going ahead to pave the way, flags are raised, elephants and horses are in charge of battle, ordination shows merit, and the royal palanquin emblazoned with the majesty of Thai Pho Tan Quoc Cong and the faces of "strong warriors and generals" interwoven in the formation of high arms has revived the ancient conventions of the country's atmosphere, of the Nguyen Canh family, is steeped in the tradition of "a loyalist must be benevolent, defend the homeland and protect the people", and especially in this procession, there is a unique thing that only the descendants of Nguyen Canh bloodline are arranged to participate in the procession formations. The procession will go through many points, in which, will stop to offer incense at Duc Hoang Temple - worshiping King Le Trang Tong, through Phuc My Pagoda, with the meaning of praying for peace for the soldiers who have joined the general in the battle...  With a large number of descendants and people participating and curious people standing on both sides of the road, the places where the procession passed with flags, banners, elephants, horses, ordination overwhelmed the sky, with team of eight musical instruments, it made the festival atmosphere very lively and bustling, the whole countryside of Do Luong was filled with the atmosphere of the festival.

Currently, the festival is being prepared by a specialized agency to request recognition of the national level of intangible cultural heritage./.
