BUON XAO FESTIVAL – TAN KY DISTRICT
Located nearly 30 km from the gateway of Tan Ky district, Tien Ky commune is favored by nature with a diverse ecosystem, majestic mountains and where is a place to keep many unique traditional cultural values of the ethnic minorities here. Currently, the local government and people of Tien Ky commune are preserving and promoting cultural values, contributing to the development of the community-based tourism model in Tien Ky, attracting thousands of visitors to visit and experience every year.
Buon Xao festival (it means Moon on the 20th in the Thai language) originates from the tradition of the Mau's death anniversary, which is an opportunity for the people of Tien Ky commune, Tan Ky district to remember the merits of King Le Loi and his generals and forefathers participated in defeating the invading Minh invaders, bringing peace and independence to our nation.
Legend has it that 594 years ago, this place was chosen as a strategic rear to prepare for decisive battles by the Lam Son insurgent army, led by Le Loi as a commander, first of all, Tra Lan citadel (inow belonging to Bong Khe commune - Con Cuong district today). This was both a capital and an important military base of the Minh army. Having won the battle of Bo Dang (in present-day Quy Chau district), Lam Son insurgent army recruited more soldiers and received food support from the people in the area to lay siege to Tra Lan citadel, cut off the road to aid and force the enemy to surrender. After defeating Tra Lan citadel, the insurgent army continued to move forward, defeating a series of enemy cities and then marching to the North, liberated Thang Long citadel, abolishing the domination of the Minh Dynasty.
After the victory in Tra Lan citadel, the people of Tien Ky held a festival to pray for troops. From then until now, every year on the occasion of 20th August of the lunar calender, the people here hold the Buon Xao festival. The festival is held in 02 days from 17th -:- 18th September with solemn ceremonies and exciting and unique cultural - art and sports exchanges
The festival aims at community cohesion, contributing to the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity, and traditional education for generations. Also on this occasion, Tien Ky commune officially restored the temple of Le Loi Nghia Army in hamlet 2 - Ke On with socialized capital. In addition to traditional ceremonies, the festival also takes place vibrant and unique cultural and artistic exchanges, aiming at community cohesion, contributing to the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity, traditional education for generations of people.
