VAC VILLAGE FESTIVAL – THAI HOA TOWN

Until the next appointment, from March 9 to 11 (lunar calendar), the people of Thai Hoa Town are eager to organize the Vac Village festival. This is a traditional festival to find the roots of ethnic minorities in the land of Thai Hoa town.

90km northwest of Vinh city, Lang Vac archaeological historical site is located in Nghia Hoa commune, Thai Hoa town (Nghe An province). Lang Vac archaeological site was recognized by Ministry of Culture and Information (now known as Ministry of Culture and Sports) in Decision No. 61/QD-BVHTT dated September 16, 1999 and announced on March 13, 2000. This is considered the first historical relic of Nghia Dan district (previous) to be recognized at the national level, an honor of all people and also since then, the Lang Vac festival was formed and held for the first time in 2000.

The beginning of 1972 marked an important historical event, which was the discovery of Lang Vac relic when randomly people here discovered bronze tools and weapons while digging land to build Dai Van dam. Through 5 excavation times (1972, 1973, 1980, 1990, 1991) on an area of more than 1,438 m2 with 347 tombs with different burial types and collected 1,228 bronze, ceramic, stone, glass and iron artifacts, in which there are many rare and precious artifacts typical of the ancient Vietnamese civilization such as bronze drums, slanted axes, daggers with human statues, elephant tiger statues, gloves, leg covers, glass rings... The most notable are 14 bronze drums dating back about 2,100 years. Especially so far, Vac Village is the most discovered relic among hundreds of Dong Son cultural relics in our country. These are really cultural and historical vestiges, which are proofs that Vac Village is one of the relics of the Dong Son culture, about 2,500 years ago - the period when King Hung built the country. That's why Lang Vac is considered the Dong Son cultural center on the Ca river basin, one of the cradles of the ancient Vietnamese people, and is highly appreciated by domestic and international archaeologists.

In addition to the ceremony, the festival part with many sports activities attracts a large number of visitors such as throwing balls, chess, volleyball, pushing sticks, jumping sacks...

In particular, in the festival, there are special contests that leave an impression such as: Gong dance, ethnic dance performances, beautiful voices and beautiful people, which clearly show the typical cultural identity of Phu Quy is rising to become a dynamic young city.

After 20 times of organization, the Vac Village Festival has become an indispensable cultural feature of the people of Thai Hoa Town. Coming here, tourists from all over the world can return to their spiritual roots, coming to one of the cradles of the ancient Viet people.

The festival is also an occasion for Thai Hoa people to gather, express the spirit of national unity, look to the roots, light incense sticks to remember the merits of the ancestors who publicly established the hamlet and gave birth to the land of Phu Quy. Together, to preserve relics, maintain and promote traditional historical and cultural values.
