VOC MAU LAKE - HOANG MAI TOWN

Vuc Mau Lake now belongs to Quynh Trang commune, Hoang Mai town, started to be built in 1978. In those years, the country had just come out of the war, with many difficulties, hardships and deprivations. Quynh Luu district was also busy with migration to mountainous areas, renovating fields, constructing irrigation works. In that context, the decision of the Secretary of Quynh Luu District Party Committee - Mr. Nguyen Huu Doi when blocking the water flow to build the Vuc Mau dam (with an area of approximately 1/3 of the district's area) is really a bold decision. The work was built in the form of the State and the people working together, has mobilized 3 million labour-days, excavated 1.6 million m3 of soil and rock.

Vuc Mau Lake has a basin area of 215km2, a storage capacity of 75 million m3, a flood prevention capacity of 125 million m3, a height of +22.21m. The lake has provided irrigation water for over 2,000 hectares of arable land, and at the same time contributed to preventing floods.

In 2013, the Government issued a decision to recognize Hoang Mai town, with the orientation to develop into a large industrial zone of Nam Thanh - Bac Nghe region. Vuc Mau Lake has also become an eco-tourism destination on the current Nghe An tourist map.
