HIEU YEN XUAN
Hieu Yen Xuan formerly belonged to Duong Xuan village, Dang Son canton, Anh Son government, now is Linh Son commune, Anh Son district, Nghe An province. The relic is 75km northwest of Vinh city along the national highway No. 7. This is a typical revolutionary relic in western of Nghe An, associated with the campaigning period for the establishment of the Party, and is the place to nurture the " red seed” for revolution.
In 1922, enlightened by the patriotic poems of Phan Boi Chau, a soul group was formed in Duong Xuan village including: Hoang Khac Bat, Cao Xuan Khoach, Phan Thai At and Nguyen Van Bac. The group's purpose was to contribute capital to open a store selling Northern medicine; at the same time as a place to travel, discuss the times and build funds for charity. In addition to capital contribution, the group also organized to contribute to plowing fields together and enjoy the profits according to the contribution. The store's reputation for filling drugs and affordable grocery prices had led to an increasing number of customers and stakeholder groups, up to 40 people. From 1922 - 1924, this group contributed to mobilizing 11 young people in the region to study abroad. In 1925, the people who contributed shares established the "Secret Friendship Association", the revolutionary organization was born earliest in Anh Son. The purpose of the association is "Đồng lao cộng tác, thông công dịch sử", which means: co-operating, exchanging work. When the business had prospered, the capital was quite good, it was required to expand the shop. In 1925, the association bought the house of a French forest officer in Lang Dien village (now Duc Son commune) and brought it back to Duong Xuan village as its headquarters. The association assigned Mr. Cao Xuan Hy and Nguyen Van Toan to supervise the construction. After finishing the house, realizing that most of the members were from Duong Xuan and Yen Linh villages, the association decided to use the compound name of two villages to name the shop as Hieu Yen Xuan.
Hieu Yen Xuan is a two-story house with a "double-match" architecture, facing the South. The house is made entirely of ironwood, roofed with slate tiles. The blades are stylized in the shape of a dragon. The lower floor has 6 round ironwood columns, the main door has 8 wings, 2 windows and 2 doors behind. The second floor is paved with all kinds of wood, the front has a window, a wooden railing of 0.8m high, 2 doors with two gables, 2 main doors with X-shaped patterns. there are wooden stairs from the lower floor to the upper floor. The lower floor is used as a place to sell groceries, Northern medicine, and garment. The upper floor is used for medical examination and it is also a secret meeting place. Currently in the relic still keep some artifacts of the shop such as: Northern medicine cabinet, money box, sewing machine, ...
Hieu Yen Xuan is growing day by day, members have expanded their business from North to South, which is convenient for traveling and operating. In 1926, the association made contact with the Vietnam Youth Revolution. The organization sent comrade Duong Dinh Thuy to build foundations, gather enlightened progressives, and set up the first Vietnam Revolutionary Youth sub-group in Anh Son at Hieu Yen Xuan. Nine comrades were admitted to the Youth organization: Tran Huu Thieu, Phan Thai At, Cao Xuan Khoach, Ho Sy Vien, Phan Hoang Than, Bui Khac Thua, Hoang Khac Bat, Nguyen Huu Duc and Nguyen Huu Co. The facilities of the Youth Union were strongly built in 02 years (1928 - 1929). Hieu Yen Xuan became the contact point of the Youth organization in Anh Son.
In September 1929, the revolutionary movement in Anh Son flourished, comrade Nguyen Phong Sac, member of the Party Central Committee in charge of Party Executive Committee of the Central Region came here to convene a secret conference to announce the establishment of the first Indochinese Communist Party cell in Anh Son. In November 1929, also at Hieu Yen Xuan, Nghe An General Agricultural Association was established, led by Comrade Phan Thai At as Secretary. In order to protect the revolutionary base, in mid-November 1929, the comrades in the organization had a meeting at Hieu Yen Xuan to discuss how to get rid of Nguyen Huu Dung, an informant, a citizen from Tri Le village. From then on, the spies also had to shrink back, not daring to be as aggressive as before.
After the Communist Party of Vietnam was born, Hieu Yen Xuan became more and more effective. This place was the base of the Party's activities and was also the financial & economic base of the Party. During the years 1930 - 1931, when the People's struggle movement was on the rise, Hieu Yen Xuan was the place to supply red flags for protests.
Hieu Yen Xuan was a place marking many valuable historical events, so on November 16, 1988, Ministry of Culture issued Decision No. 1288 VH/QD recognizing Yen Xuan as a National historical and cultural relic.
